FLOWERDELI
Monica’s Story
I grew up in Lucknow - a warm, charming city bustling with food, architectural and textile history. However, amongst all these attractions, it was the fresh flowers sold at the roadside stalls that excited me the most. I would save up my precious pocket money and spend it on a cherished bunch of Rajnigandha and Gladiolus flowers. They were my prized possessions, and I endeavoured to take the best possible care of them. Perhaps, this is where I formed a deep and long-lasting connection with flowers.
As my husband and I started to travel extensively for work, I had the opportunity to live in various unique and different places. My most memorable moments were always spent at flower shops, observing the myriad, diverse and intricate flower arrangements. In Japan, I learnt about Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The detailed and minimalist nature of Ikebana fascinated me to no end – of how the most creative and elegant arrangements could be crafted with solely a few flower stems and branches. This fascination with flowers continued as I discovered still more about them in other places across the world.
Throughout the years, these little experiences nurtured my passion for minimalist flowers – in finding the freshest of flowers that were low-fuss, long- lasting, and would brighten up dull spots throughout spaces in my house. Before I knew it, I started to send flowers for my friend’s restaurant regularly, and she, alongside my daughters and husband, encouraged me to consider starting a flower delivery business. With my elder one leaving the nest and starting college last year, this idea seemed promising and thrilling. It was the perfect way for me to not only immerse myself in my longstanding passion, but also focus on starting a new phase in my life. Now every week, as I carefully choose flowers and craft arrangements, I feel a sense of both contentment and exhilaration, and feel extremely grateful to be a part of this fulfilling field.
